A little about me...
...but not a lot.
My name is Tim Zapart.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. I have two beautiful kids; a son and daughter and a wonderful Norwegian wife. Mid 2006 saw the Zapart family pack up and move literally to the other side of the world. We have settled in the Aust-Agder region of southern Norway (Arendal) to be close to friends and family.
With this, the reason for this site becomes a little more apparent; to advertise my skill set, attract work - but most importantly, to stay in touch with the Aussies I love.

A little about this site
The technology and the choices.
This is an informative site.
Although it aims to impress its viewers, my primary concern was to get a lot of information about myself and my work out there in a coherent, structured, speedy and most importantly 'organised' fashion. I also wanted secure (private) content that I could share with family and friends back in Australia. These primary objectives helped me decide on the technology to use to develop this site.
The need for a database to hold my content was obvious, and personal developmental preference (in addition to the free, open-source nature) of mySQL and PHP made the back-end decision a simple one. The front-end however, had me tossing and turning over a primarily Flash based solution, or a traditional XHTML approach with the visual capabilities of CSS. I opted for the XHTML/CSS approach. Why? I don't know - For something different I guess. I spent most of my days (at Monash University) in Flash or Director pushing students' skill sets within these authoring environments - I guess I thought it would be nice to have a solid traditional solution to be proud of.
After all, if I want bells and whistles - I can always add them later (stay tuned for some Flash Video inclusions).
